We've just opened Che Camille's new home in the
Barras Centre

We've enjoyed making our home in different areas around Glasgow
over the years. Rather than do pop-up stores that disappear all too
quickly, we've enjoyed living in various locations and incarnations
around the city. First came the Chateau (Gorbals), followed by the
Saltmarket (Merchant City), Buchanan Street (Style Mile), and now,
as we enter our fifth year, the Barras Market (East End).

As Che Camille promotes independent design, local labour
and materials, our stores and projects need to evolve in response
to the needs of the designers and customers.

Luckily things have progressed leaps and bounds since we began.
There are now large numbers of designers choosing to remain in or
return to Scotland. There has been an explosion of fantastic
boutiques sweeping the country, paving the way for designers from
outside Scotland to see us as a viable market (a wider variety of
designs for the customers). Scores of creative brains are busy
blogging, snapping away at stylish scenes and telling the world
about the exciting scene unfolding before them. AND, and, and -
everyone and their dog wants to either attend or participate in a
fashion show - hurrah!

So what does the the indie fashion world need
next?

1. Events.
Our new courtyard is ideal for events - yes, yes, fashion
shows! Also exhibitions, clothes swaps, indoor markets, a meeting
of the minds. Once the café opens on Sat. Sept 11th, there will be
great coffee, real cakes, perhaps even some of the magazines you're
missing from Borders if you ask nicely. Café culture is
coming.

2. The Loft Unit: Our Tailoring Studio.
Our made-to-measure service is more popular than ever.
From quirky brides to the wildest golfer in the club - we enjoy
working with customers to give them exactly what they want. We can
advise on fabric and design, and we're about to launch a Harris
Tweed suiting service. We want garments you can save for your
grandchildren.

3. The Courtyard Unit: The Press Closet &
Marché

The Press Closet is a new service from Che Camille to
allow designers take advantage of the press's growing interest in
featuring pieces from independent designers in magazines,
newspapers and blogs.

A unique resource for Scotland, the Press Closet will make garment
sourcing easy and organised, thus attracting new interest. Product
shots will allow the closet to be browsed online to assist stylists
in planning.

The Che Marché will be open at
weekends and by appointment, and will market feature one-off
treasures as well and samples of items sold in Che Camille's online
shop. We've been working hard and making lists of A-mazing products
from in Scotland and beyond that we want to bring to you.. and here
they come. We want to bring new offerings to the Barras, a
legendary local market and essential Glasgow experience.

4. Some lovely neighbours.
The units adjoining are filling up with the designers
from our old workshop and other likeminded, creative businesses.
People worth coming out to see on your Sunday walk. We're enjoying
each other's company, sharing information on photo studio rental,
and hatching plans for Christmas already! Community is essential
for small businesses. The livin' isn't easy, but we do enjoy our
work.

Come down. Here's where to find us:
textiles in a collection that combines the riches of African
textiles with western styling. The street markets of Malawi sell

difficult for locally produced clothing to compete in the local
Market. MIA works with tailors in Malawi to create ranges which
turn this challenge into an opportunity. Collections are designed
and marketed to an international fashion market. Profits are
reinvested in communities in Malawi, as well as in the training,
equipment and infrastructure needed to create sustainable

Saturday brings the much
anticipated club-night Ché Supermax, where all you lucky
folk will be privy to a fashion show centred around SHOES!
Like we could ever have enough pairs....

First up is the wonderfully stylish
Kat
Maconie, who's new collection genuinely embodies that
phrase 'practical and stylish'. Reclaiming the flat shoe as a thing
of beauty Maconie uses high-quality materials in a dreamy array of
pink's, noir's and our personal favourite a delicious dusky mink
shade. All teamed with a touch of hardware in the shape of her
signature gold screw trims or jewellery inspired gold knots.

Perfect for both work and play as
every shoe carries her signature 'mould to measure' insole, which
have been specially created to support your feet in a way most flat
shoes fail miserably to do. Ensuring you never have to limp home
from the club with your shoes in hand avoiding the many Glasgowian
puddles again....

We will also be showing Hetty
Rose, an exciting bespoke footwear label, she re-works
vintage materials in an incrediably creative and sustainable way.
Hetty is known for her excellent artisanship and her interesting
use of colour, creating striking, unique and feminine shoes for
all. Previous collections harnessed the vibrancy of antique kimono
fabric, creating standout heels for the adventurous lass who wanted
to spice up that ol' little black dress.

While her new collection Keep
& Love is more on the mellow side with sumptuous silvers,
pale nudes and lilacs. Gorgeous in their use of colour and unusal
trims - antique lace, vintage flower trinkets and mere touches of
the famous kimono fabric. We can't wait to get our hands on
Valentine (pictured above) - the petal shapes, it's silk
ties, the lace heel detail and oh that shade silver like moonlight.
Just looking at them makes us think of summer....<a

Here at Che Camille we believe that
everyone deserves one-of-a-kind, high quality and well made
designs, whether you've saved up for ages or it's an impulse buy,
follow our guide to ensure you get the best.

You know the feeling, your perusing
your favourite independent showroom (wink, wink) soaking up the
atmosphere, chatting to the lovely staff when your eye becomes
drawn towards THE perfect jacket, dress, or top. The most important
thing is the cut and shape of the garment. Try it on and ensure a
flattering fit by making sure the fabric does not pull across the
bust or your stomach. That the armholes are not too tight that you
can to raise your arms above your head, so if needs be you can show
off those killer dance moves.

Ok so now you know you look hawt,
take the garment off and decide whether the price on the label is
worth the fabric it is made from. Different materials cost
different amounts for example polyester and cotton should be less
expensive than cashmere, silk or satin. If you are unsure, always
ask a member of staff and compare your garment to others in the
shop. Remember that any treatments to fabrics will increase their
value, for example ethical or eco-friendly fabrics, hand-dyed,
digitally printed or customisations like appliqué. Cast an eye over
the garment and double check that the fabric is also free of any
pulling, puckering, holes or bobbling. Also, check that all
fastenings like buttons and hooks and zips are securely fastened
because these flaws will just get worse when you get it home.

Happy so far? Good next, don't be
shy, turn the garment inside out and check out those seams! You
want seams that are straight, with no gaps/holes in the stitching,
that there are no raw or frayed edges. You want these raw edges to
be either overlocked or turned under, especially at the hems. Also,
double check there are no hanging/loose threads inside or out as
these can fray and unravel. You also need to ensure you have
washing instructions or care labels because the after care of your
garment is very important for longevity - nothing ruins a
silk dress like putting it in the washing machine, trust us!

Hope that's helped any confused
shoppers, independent designs should be well crafted, an investment
piece and of course fun!

Our first
blog installment of the story that is Halleluwah Hits, Glasgow's new label for
cutting-edge pop music. With a little nook in the Che Camille
showroom, the boys encourage all music lovers to pop their head
into this man-corner to find limited edition tees, rare vinyl and
some damn good banter.

******************************

When we
met Tom Marshallay, aka Dam Mantle, up in HH HQ, he brought with
him a few tunes he'd been creating under the name Animals +
War. Loving the sound, we immediately asked if he could do us
a mixtape and the result just blew us away,
introducing us to his new musical direction as Dam Mantle.
Still hanging on to the roots of Animals + War, but mixing it
up with all the exciting aspects of the Glasgow electronic
scene. After asking Tom to DJ at a few Che Camille parties,
we discovered we were all on the same brainlength - the intense
feeling that Glasgow has a musical energy unriveled right now, that
something is going to explode in the city!

With the bloggers and magazines
including Neu, 405 and Wire starting to go wild for Dam
Mantle, these next couple of months are going to be well busy.
Especially as his remixing duties are in heavy demand, with
upcoming reworks of Gold Panda, Au Revoir Simone and Gonjasufi, and
more in the pipeline.

Over the next week we talked about a release, and we're happy
to announce it will be bouncing off your ears on the 5th of April,
on a Easter Special holy Halleluwah day. Grey, Dam
Mantle's debut EP is a fusion of various elements, exploring the
theatrical and the transcultural all the while holding on to
electronic music for dear life. Dam Mantle often finds itself stuck
in a loop where various points in time and various cultures meet
and refract each other, this forms a regurgitation of 'now'. The
pic above is from the awesome EP cover work, which is all Tom's
(Dam Mantle) design and to add to the beauty of this release,
he is screenprinting each one, by himself, all 300 copies!

Mantle's tour dates check out Halleluwah Hits
